Event Description

On August 15th, Technology Hampton Roads (THR) will be hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) conference and networking event to connect Hampton Roads’ industry, professionals, and colleges with Grades K - 12 educators to promote Science, Technology, Engineering & Math opportunities for students. The conference will highlight formal programs and projects that are easy to integrate with existing curricula.  The conference will highlight projects developed by local teachers and school districts; and programs like First Robotics, Project Lead The Way, and Future City. These programs provide mentor relationships for mission-specific projects based on ‘real life’ problem solving, focusing on team work and emphasizing presentation skills while continually supporting the national education standards-based core curriculum.

The Technology Hampton Roads Stem Conference will bring together Teachers, Administrators, Government and Private Sector Sponsors to support Hampton Roads area Teachers interested in adding Science, Technology, Engineering & Math focused modules into their classrooms.

Hosted by THR, the STEM Connection event will:

  • Promote best practices and collaboration between the region’s schools and cities
  • Provide opportunities for continuing education to teachers and administrators
  • Connect industry sponsors and professionals with students and schools via volunteering to ensure the success of STEM programs in the region

The program will include:

  • Presentations on ‘Home Grown’ Science, Technology, Engineering & Math programs developed by Teachers in the region
  • Presentations on national STEM programs (FIRST Robotics, Project Lead The Way, and Future City)
  • Opportunities to network with teachers, administrators, sponsors and volunteers interested in supporting STEM initiatives in local schools
